I really liked the part where Sam invented democracy and everyone made fun of him.

nope. brand new thing. her wolf was wild and a bit of a wanderer but the spirit animal thing was abandoned, so.

I get the part of her that wasn't ever going to be a lady bored brainless now that all of her list was gone.   And I'm sure that Martin had this planned for her on his 'last plot page' but because D&D wanted to get this crap done so they could move onto star wars there just wasn't any time built in to show arya having that interest of wanting to be the dread pirate roberts.

so many excellent plot stories that were just thrown into a knot or just done away with quickly to get this artificial ending date met.

people will wonder for a long time had D&D agreed with HBO and said 10 seasons sounds good.  Yea the CGI action porn was really good but I think most people just really loved the character interactions, it was so strong.  But once they got away from Martin who can really write a conversation perhaps they felt that was the weak point of their game and just wanted to end it.  who knows.  I'm not real enthused about the star wars series they're going to make.

A bit of a long read but worthwhile imo.

I saw that article and thought the same thing.  Would have given the Dires a reason to be in the books/shows and been a great, fun fight.

I always thought there was a tighter link between each Dire and person - like synchronisity or something.  But alas, they were just pets and, imho, a missed opportunity.
